IT Dept -- Assoc. Project Engineer/Systems Engineer -- Oracle DBA

Basic Purpose of Job:
This position is a technical position in the IT Department as part of the career path process. The technical career path is for employees interested in an individual contributor role, who want to work with other team members to ensure a project's success. The main elements of the technical path include: 1) No direct reports, 2) Heavy technical skills, 3) Heavy teamwork, 4) Heavy client/customer contact, 5) Heavy daily planning and execution, 6) Creativity, and 7) Participation in interviewing process.
Two Oracle DBA positions are currently available. One position will report to Steve Ashmore and one will report to Ryan Wand.
Position will be filled at Band B/C level (Assoc. Project Engineer, Project Engineer, Sr. Project Engineer, Assoc. Systems Engineer, or Systems Engineer) depending upon the successful candidate's and skill set.
A successful candidate with be a highly motivated self-starter with strong verbal and written communications skills. The candidate will have good technical skills, good troubleshooting skills, and enjoy hands-on activities.
An Oracle DBA is responsible for supporting Oracle 9i,10g, & 11g databases. Duties include, but are not limited to, requirements gathering, analysis, database modeling/design, database creation/configuration/upgrades, implementation of new objects, database backup utilizing RMAN and NetBackup for Oracle, and database performance tuning. Additional tasks will include assisting in the development of standards and procedures for the evolving Oracle platform landscape.
Primary Accountability of the Position:
Analyzing business requirements for database modeling/design
Database Creation, Configuration, & Maintenance
SQL Tuning
Backup & Recovery
Software license compliance and management
Design, build, test and document Oracle software upgrades
Coordinate Oracle software upgrades
Support Oracle software compilers, ODBC/JDBC and client installations
Communicate with software vendor contacts
Assist with technical activities related to product reviews and proof of concept activities in the TPM space
Plan and schedule software upgrades
Required Experience/Skill Set include:
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Strong Project Management skills
Ability to lead a team in day to day activities
Strong Analytical skills in order to solve problems under pressure.
Proficient with relational database management systems (RDBMS), problem diagnosis and resolution, standards development & compliance plus hands on/detailed experience with Oracle
Extensive knowledge of the UNIX/LINUX operating system
Desired Experience/Skill Set include:
3+ years with Oracle
Experience with UPRR RDBMS environments, and distributed computing environments
Experience with the Postgres platform
