Basic Purpose of Job:
This position is a technical position in the IT Department as part of the Career Path Process. The technical career path is for employees interested in an individual contributor role, who want to work with other team members to ensure a project's success. Position reports to Don Shennum in the Systems Engineering group and will be filled as a Band B (Project Engineer, Sr. Project Engineer, or Associate Systems Engineer) depending upon the successful candidate's skill set and experience.
Candidate will be required to take (or have taken) and successfully pass the Berger Aptitude for Programming Test (BAPT).
Position acts as a J2EE developer position developing and supporting Interactive Voice Response (IVR) applications for the entire UPRR business and customer base.
Position will design, develop and implement voice-and telephony-based applications, supporting Crew Management, NCSC, Operations, Finance, and other business units. This includes integration with existing UP enterprise applications.
Required Experience/Skill Sets include:
Minimum of 2 years of software development lifecycle experience using Java and related technologies
Minimum of 3 years IT experience including: development experience with Java applications; working knowledge of vxml-based applications; knowledge of frameworks (Wicket, Spring container, JMS); experience with XML, knowledge of Object Oriented development techniques; testing lifecycle experience.
Minimum of 2 years of database experience with complex SQL, stored procedures, performance analysis and design.
Strong communication, writing skills and problem-solving skills.
Desired skill set/experience includes:
Exposure to J2EE Application Servers and ORACLE; UNIX/LINUX, Tuxedo, Toad, Quick Test Pro, Win Runner, Load Runner.
Exposure to voice recognition applications and functionality.
Working knowledge of call center concepts.
Exposure to frameworks and technologies like Wicket and Spring
Understanding Use Cases and Requirements from available User Requirements Documentation
Implementing and testing improvements based on a full understanding of user needs
Strong technical documentation skills
