Manager Bridge Maintenance/Construction - Pool

Work Location: Various Locations, VL

Basic Purpose of Job:

Manage all functions of bridge, tunnel and drainage structure maintenance and construction on a given territory. Ensure that all such structures meet or exceed existing standards. This includes planned as well as emergency work, utilizing limited resources, while achieving company business objectives.

This is a Band C position.
Successful candidate must have qualified on the Operating Management Test Battery.

Accountabilities:
  • Ensure that the daily activities performed by bridge forces allows for the highest structural integrity at the lowest cost and within existing rules, instructions and standards.

  • Implement and coordinate activities used to improve and promote a safer work environment.

  • Respond promptly to any accident or emergency call, with every available resource necessary to remedy the situation and provide required reports.

  • Inspect all bridges, tunnels and drainage structures two (2) times annually or at a frequency necessary to operate at maximum efficiency and establish a 5-year capital improvement program.

  • Manage and coordinate the efficient utilization of resource allotments in line with maintenance (O.E.) capital (P.I.) projects, including bridge, track and other engineering projects. Prioritize required O.E. and P.I. projects through communication with service units, engineering services planning and scheduling, and/or other departments.

  • Provide all bridge personnel with any changes to the rules, procedures, policy, or other information which will impact their daily work routines.

  • Communicate and coordinate railroad bridge activities which involve the U.S. Coast Guard, Army Corps of Engineers, other federal agencies, city and state government, property owners, other railroads, and private agencies.

  • Assist service units and other departments with the maintenance of buildings, scales and other structures.

  • Elicit critical information and guidance from field bridge personnel and upper management and exchange such information. Make decisions based on this input which will best achieve the company business objectives.

Preferred Education, Training, Experience or Skills:
  • A Bachelor of Science degree B.S. Degree in Engineering/Technology

  • 5 year(s) experience / knowledge in Engineering Bridge/Structures; Bridge Designer; Bridge Mechanic/Carpenter

  • 3 year(s) experience / knowledge in Railroad operations Supervisory/Management Bridge Foreman, Bridge Inspector

  • Proficient analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Intermediate communication skills

  • Proficient financial skills Budget Responsibilty

  • Proficient Microsoft Suite skills
