Paralegal I / Paralegal II

Basic Purpose of Job:

Provide significant litigation assistance, project management and paralegal support in the area of FELA, environmental, crossing, trespass and other cases brought against the company.

This position is assigned to the Chicago Law office within Union Pacific's Law Department. This position will be filled as a Paralegal I or Paralegal II , band A / B level, depending on experience.

Accountabilities:
  • Review new files, draft Initial Disclosures, and assist in determining need for additional investigation.

  • Draft case specific discovery to plaintiffs and other parties. Assist in meet and confer process and in drafting motions to compel.

  • Obtain relevant, responsive information and documents in order to formulate responses to discovery served on UPRR.

  • Perform legal and non-legal research, both computerized, internet-based and manual, to assist attorneys in establishing UPRR's position and formulation of strategy.

  • Review medical records, prepare medical books as requested.

  • Perform other paralegal assignments as requested.

  • Assist in preparation for trial, including locating and collating exhibits.

  • Assist attorneys during trial.

Required Education, Training, Experience or Skills:
  • A Bachelor Degree with emphasis in business, pre-law or legal assistance or Paralegal degree or certificate.

Preferred Education, Training, Experience or Skills:
  • 1 year(s) experience / knowledge in computer applications legal support technology.

  • 2 year(s) experience / knowledge in a management / professional position work experience at a litigation firm

  • Proficient communication skills Excellent organizational and writing skills?
