Mgr Term Ops

Basic Purpose of Job:

Manage the safety and daily operations of major terminals, ensuring both safety and transportation product quality meets or exceeds the standards set by the business objectives and customer expectations. This position may have overall management responsibility for a large terminal or have shift responsibility within a major terminal complex.

Accountabilities:
  • Manage the safety program ensuring that all functional areas achieve a significant reduction in personal injuries and derailments and that there is a significant improvement in the safety of the work environment. Coordinate problem solving process for injury and derailment prevention.

  • Manage the execution of the transportation plan to achieve quality of service business objectives, ensuring necessary resources are in place.

  • Lead and manage the safety and production of Remote Control Locomotive (RCL) operations.

  • Lead, coach and develop Terminal transportation managers and agreement employees to ensure individual performance and employee involvement activities determine successful accomplishment of company business objectives.

  • Analyze, coordinate and execute the transportation plan cross-functionally in the Terminal as it relates to the Terminal day-to-day operations.

  • Manage local train and switch engine operations.

  • Manage the efficient use of locomotives and fuel to ensure that freight car cycles are effectively managed while in the terminals.

  • Implement and manage local train and switch engine operations.

  • Respond to emergencies and service interruptions in the terminal.

  • Manage terminal work force level to ensure transportation needs are met and operate within budget.

  • Coordinate operations and interact with functional support, engineering, signal, and mechanical personnel

  • Engage workforce to ensure and safe and efficient operations.

  • Additional Accountabilities (Non-Terminal Complex): Develop and implement the safety process in the Terminal

  • Additional Accountabilities (Non-Terminal Complex): Coordinate Terminal operations between Engineering, Maintenance Operations, Marketing & Sales, Intermodal, NCSC, HDC, etc. departments.

  • Additional Accountabilities (Non-Terminal Complex): Maintain cross-functional relationships with internal and external customers, other railroads, regulatory agencies, city & state governments, centralized functions & other service units, etc.

  • Additional Accountabilities (Non-Terminal Complex): Implement local train and switch engine operations.

  • Additional Accountabilities (Non-Terminal Complex): Implement and manage ongoing training programs to ensure employees reach and maintain a high level of quality proficiency and enthusiasm for attainment of Company Business Objectives and Service Unit goals.

  • Additional Accountabilities (Non-Terminal Complex): Manage terminal work force level to meet transportation needs and ensure safety, while operating within budget.

Required Education, Training, Experience or Skills:
  • 1 year(s) experience / knowledge in supervising

Preferred Education, Training, Experience or Skills:
  • A Bachelor Degree

  • 1 year(s) experience / knowledge working in asset management

  • 2 year(s) experience / knowledge in computer applications Mainframe/TCS and PC

  • 2 year(s) experience / knowledge in Engineering Cross-functional experience and working knowledge of operations

  • 4 year(s) experience / knowledge in Labor Relations High level of knowledge of Train & Engine Labor Agreements with regard to operations and pay agreements

  • 2 year(s) experience / knowledge in the Mechanical Department Cross-functional experience and working knowledge of operations

  • 1 year(s) experience / knowledge in the Operating Department Completion of Operating Management Training program or 4+ years of field operations experience

  • 2 year(s) experience / knowledge in train operations 2 to 4 years experience as a Mgr Train Ops

  • 4 year(s) experience / knowledge in transportation field operations or 2 year experience as a Mgr Yard Ops or other transportation-related nonagreement position

  • Basic communication skills both written and oral

  • Proficient Mainframe skills TCS applications as they relate to Transportation

  • Basic system skills Operating, MofW, and Mechanical rules
