Operations Management Program

Our Operations Management Training puts people who have a college degree in the field – and in charge – after just a few months of on-the-job training.

This is an opportunity to do work you couldn't do anywhere else, real railroad work, and an opportunity to begin your railroad career in a position of true authority. As a manager in our Operations department, you’ll be responsible for a mechanical shop, major track projects, or the logistics of keeping thousands of trains moving safely and on time every day.

You'll start with 6 to 12 months of paid training, where you'll learn about Union Pacific’s rich heritage, our company culture and goals, and how each area of Operations works.

You'll be assigned to one of those three areas – mechanical, engineering or transportation – and to a location in our 23-state network.

Engineering Associates build and maintain tracks, bridges, buildings and communication devices throughout our system.

Mechanical Associates keep our fleet of 8,000 diesel electric locomotives and 107,000 freight cars in top mechanical condition.

Transportation Associates manage the safe and efficient movement of trains throughout our system.
